Individually, you are required to write a 2000 word individual report, in which you must critically examine the prescribed scenario (case).
Assessment Description
The purpose of this individual assignment is to foster students’ ability to discuss and reflect on the main aspects of leadership, risk management and strategic decision making. In creating the report, you will need to demonstrate your analytical skills along with your ability to critically examine the relevant primary and/or secondary sources of information.

This assessment is a culmination piece, in which you will be given an opportunity to combine the information you have accumulated in the lectures from weeks 1-12. More importantly, you will need to show case an understanding of the concepts of risk and crisis management, innovative strategies and leadership.
The Task: Based on the scenario below, you are required to write a 2000-word report. In this report, you must demonstrate an understanding and application of various tourism and hospitality strategies, concepts and present strategic recommendations. You will be required to incorporate recent peer-reviewed literature in order to justify your proposed recommendations.
Scenario: In the last few months you have witnessed the tragic fire that destroyed much of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and you have seen the level of upset by tourists and the community about the loss. Imagine that you have just been employed by the Parisian Tourism commission to review the tourism situation and also the response times of the relevant authorities to the fire.
You have now been asked to prepare a report in which you must critically analyse the risk and crisis factors, leadership, strategic decisions undertaken by the authorities and the Cathedral for dealing with such situations. Based on your analysis, you are required to provide at least three strategic crisis and risk recommendations and incorporate innovative strategies for getting the tourists to return to Paris and to present these findings to the board of directors, along with reasons for recommending further improvements, all of which must be based on scholarly sources.
You are required to use at least 12 sources of information and reference these in accordance with Kaplan Harvard Referencing Style. These may include websites, government publications, industry reports, census data, journal articles, and newspaper articles. These references should be presented as a reference list at the end of your report.
Assignment Submission
This file must be submitted as a ‘Word’ document to avoid any technical issues that may occur from incorrect file format upload. Uploaded files with a virus will not be considered as a legitimate submission. Turnitin will notify you if there is an issue with the submitted file. In this case, you must contact your lecturer via email and provide a brief description of the issue and a screenshot of the Turnitin error message. You are also encouraged to submit your work well in advance of the deadline to avoid any possible delay with the Turnitin similarity report or any other technical difficulties.
Late assignment submission penalties
Penalties will be imposed on late assignment submissions in accordance with Kaplan Business School “late assignment submission penalties” policy.
Number of days Penalty
1* – 9 days 5% per day for each calendar day late deducted from the total marks available
10 – 14 days 50% deducted from the total marks available.
After 14 days Assignments that are submitted more than 14 calendar days after the due date will not be accepted, and the student will receive a mark of zero for the assignment(s).
Note Notwithstanding the above penalty rules, assignments will also be given a mark of zero if they are submitted after assignments have been returned to students
*Assignments submitted at any stage within the first 24 hours after the deadline will be considered to be one day late and therefore subject to the associated penalty
